Editing and narrative impact — Magdalena Herrera and Rebecca Simons
in collaboration with World Press Photo
The workshop is set up to strengthen the editing skills of photographers, specifically selecting and sequencing images in a story. The two-days course covers editing photo stories for different types of publication, and also submissions for grants and awards.
PROGRAM
Participants will bring a story of max 60 images, which they will edit down to about 12.
DAY 1:
General introduction
Editing example (various editing options) from 2 stories minimum
Editing in groups with own material
DAY 2
Presentations of edits with feedback 20 min per person

MASTERS’ BIO
Magdalena Herrera is the Director of photography for Geo, France. She worked as art director and head of photography for National Geographic magazine in France from 1999 to 2009. She has taught photojournalism at Sciences Po Journalism in Paris and in several workshops in Europe, Asia and Africa, including the Reporting Change program for World Press Photo.
Rebecca Simons is Senior Producer and Project Manager for education at World Press Photo. She coordinates the annual Joop Swart Masterclass and as a producer she has been responsible for several exhibitions, books and online productions.
