“Cabinet Fantastique – Lighting techniques for portrait photography and aesthetics of the photographic illusion” is a two-days intensive workshop on visual and conceptual analysis of lighting for portrait photography.

The first part of the workshop will be developed through practical shooting exercises, in order to deepen the different lighting techniques and offer participants the opportunity to learn how to use different light sources (natural light / flash / continuous light) both separately and simultaneously. The second will be focused on the criticism and aesthetics of the image, linked above all to the portrait, through the vision and the student’s portfolio reviews.

Requested equipment: camera with a tripod, computer, card reader and 1 camera + 1 lens (preferably standard focal length).

|| Due to the health situation related to Covid-19 pandemic all the participants may present their works in a digital portfolio only and wear the masks. The necessary social distancing will be guaranteed ||


MASTER’S BIO

Born in 1967 in Turin, and based between Italy and Spain. Since he began taking pictures at the age of 18, for almost 30 years, Paolo Verzone has been photographing the world around him. Since 1991 he’s been collaborating with Alessandro Albert in projects focused on portraits, such as SeeuropeansVolti di Passaggio and Grandi Bagnanti.
He works with the most important international magazines, such as National Geographic, Time, Newsweek, Le Monde, The Independent, Sunday Times , Liberation, Vanity Fair, D la Repubblica delle Donne, Geo, Io Donna, GQ, Amica, Rolling Stone, Marie Claire, Courier International, Das Magazin.
His series of students’ portraits from military academy throughout Europe, “Cadets”, has been published by Editions de La Martinière in 2014.
Paolo Verzone’s works were awarded with several grants, among them: World Press Photo in 2000, 2009, and 2015; Canon Giovani fotografi; American Photography  2009-10, Sony Photography award 2011.
His photographs are part of different collections at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, and the Instituto Nazionale della Grafica, in Rome.
Paolo Verzone is a member of Agence Vu.
Since 2017 he is a Canon Ambassador.

Historian and art critic born in Benevento. Azzurra Immediato lives in Bologna where she studied Art at the DAMS and History of Medieval and Modern Art at the Alma Mater Studiorum. She comes to the contemporary after years of work in HR, collaborating with young online magazines, writing about art, design, theater and cinema. She has followed and follows several emerging artists and not, for several years cooperating with some galleries as a critic, especially in the work of designing, writing and editing catalogs and art books and for monographic and collective exhibitions; she also works for exhibitions and artistic projects of a different nature. Her passion for photography allows her to tend towards the search for new languages ​​and in recent years, in addition to her affection, she has curated and directed some exhibitions in collaboration with Italian and foreign photographers, in national museums or festivals, together with charity and art therapy from university patronage. It assigns to culture a central role in human existence and to the curiosity for the world, a value that must never be forgotten.
